From the rainforest to real-world readiness: How OSG Nyby students are becoming life-ready learners

At 九州app, we believe that developing life-ready students goes beyond academics, it’s about empowering students to become curious thinkers, effective collaborators and confident leaders. A recent student-led initiative from Nyby (Sweden) provides an excellent example of this.

As part of an immersive Rainforest Assignment, our Primary students dove headfirst into the heart of the Amazon –and it wasn鈥檛 your typical classroom project. Guided by our Learning to Learn framework, students took ownership of their learning journeys through hands-on exploration, peer collaboration and purposeful creativity.

An immersive learning experience designed for students

The entire Rainforest Assignment was imagined and led by the Primary Lead Teacher at Nyby Campus, encouraging our learners not just to participate in their learning, but decide for themselves how and what to learn.聽 This Assignment invited our younger learners to:

  • build 3D rainforest models, visualising the biodiversity of the Amazon
  • research and present on native wildlife and ecosystems
  • explore indigenous cultures, celebrating their knowledge and resilience
  • create awareness campaigns to protect the rainforest from deforestation.

Each student followed a differentiated learning pathway, engaging with the content in a way that matched their strengths, interests, and goals. Whether they were deep diving into environmental science or crafting persuasive posters for rainforest conservation, every student was building the real-world skills that matter most: curiosity, communication, critical thinking, and compassion.

Capturing leadership in action

One of the standout moments? The entire experience was captured in a student-produced video by our incredible Student Leadership Team. Their film not only documented the journey -it told a story of collaboration and creativity in action.

Life-ready learning, inspired by the world around us

The Rainforest Assignment at Nyby is more than just a school project. It鈥檚 a powerful example of what happens when students are given the tools鈥攁nd the trust鈥攖o lead their own learning. By fostering autonomy, creativity, and global awareness, we鈥檙e not just preparing students for tests鈥攚e鈥檙e preparing them for life.

Well done, Nyby students and leaders! Let鈥檚 keep learning boldly, thinking deeply, and working together to protect our planet.
